Bridge archway

Archway is an area of north London, England, in the London Borough of Islington 3. It straddles the A1 and is named after a former local landmark, the high, single-arched Archway Bridge which crossed the road to the north. It has a modern commercial hub around. On behalf of the Highgate Society David Richmond has now submitted planning applications to Haringey and Islington Councils for approval of his design. The consultation periods on these applications have now. Highgate Archway, or just Archway as it is now more commonly known, carries Hornsey Lane over the A1, Archway Road, one of the major routes connecting London with the rest of the country. By the late 18th century the steep hills of Highgate – the main route to London – were becoming difficult to negotiate for the heavier wagons needed to move materials needed for the Industrial Revolution taking place. By 1380, a new road with a steep incline was in use which originated in the city, passing through Hollow y, meeting with Highgate Hill.
