Technical Requirements for Generator Relay Protection

Each Generator Owner, Transmission Owner, and Distribution Provider shall apply settings that are in accordance with PRC -025-2 – Attachment 1 : Relay Settings, on each load-responsive protective relay while maintaining reliable fault protection. Unit auxiliary transformer(s) (UAT) that supply overall auxiliary power necessary to keep generating unit(s) online. Requirement R2 is subject to the following exceptions lat sults, experience from an actual event, or manufacturer's advic. In order to support the system during this transient phase of a disturbance, this standard establishes criteria for setting load-responsive protective relays such that individual generators may provide Reactive Power within their dynamic capability during. While both IEEE and IEC provide guidance on sizing CTs for protective relay applications, the similarities and differences between the two guides have generally been unclear. In addition, the CT sizing criteria ultimately depend on the relay design and application settings and have been difficult. of its Facilities are fully compliant with Requirements R1, R2, ili mun erating plant that remains within the “no trip zone” of PRC-024 Attachment 2.
