Distribution box hole plug

Distribution box plug holes are sealed openings in septic or drainage distribution boxes, designed to connect or close pipes securely using twist-lock or snap-in seals.Purpose of Plug Holes

Distribution box plug holes allow for the connection of inlet and outlet pipes while maintaining a watertight or gas-tight seal. They also enable unused openings to be safely sealed, preventing leaks, infiltration, or contamination in wastewater and drainage systems .

Types of Plugs and Seals
  • Twist-Lock Pipe Seals: Commonly used for 4-inch plastic pipes, these seals are inserted into the box opening, twisted, and locked to secure the pipe. They can be adapted for increased head installations with a sealing compound .
  • Corrugated Pipe Seals: Designed for corrugated pipes, the first few corrugations are compressed, inserted into the box, and then expanded to lock the seal in place .
  • Snap-In or Push-Fit Plugs: Some distribution boxes use snap-in plugs for unused holes, allowing quick installation without tools .
Installation Guidelines
  1. Select the Correct Seal: Choose a seal compatible with the pipe type (smooth or corrugated) and size.
  2. Apply Sealant if Needed: For increased head or smooth-walled pipes, a bead of asphalt-based sealant may be applied where the seal lip contacts the box .
  3. Insert and Lock: Place the seal into the box opening, insert the pipe at least one inch inside, and twist or lock the seal according to the design.
  4. Check Alignment: Ensure the distribution box is level and the pipe is properly seated for optimal flow and inspection access .
Materials

Distribution box plugs and seals are typically made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or other durable plastics, providing corrosion resistance, long-term durability, and compatibility with wastewater systems .

Additional Features
  • Risers: Stackable risers can extend the box to grade for easy inspection and maintenance.
  • Anti-Flotation Adapters: Prevent the box from shifting due to groundwater.
  • Tamper-Resistant Screws: Optional stainless steel screws secure the lid and prevent unauthorized access . In summary, distribution box plug holes are essential for connecting pipes and sealing unused openings in septic and drainage systems. Proper selection, installation, and sealing ensure system integrity, prevent leaks, and allow for easy inspection and maintenance.
